Joseph Olugbenga Olowu, the Ibadan-born defender who spent 13 years at Arsenals Hale End Academy, is on course to join Stockport County on a free transfer. The 25 year old centre-back will sign a three year deal effective 1July2025, following the expiration of his contract at Doncaster Rovers.

Olowus journey began in 2008 at Arsenal, where he progressed through the youth ranks before departing in summer 2021. That summer, he briefly trialled with Manchester Uniteds under23 squad. He then signed with Doncaster Rovers in September 2021, initially on a short-term deal.

At Doncaster, Olowu grew into a key player. He made 121 league appearances and scored eight goals. In March 2023, he secured a new two and a half year contract, reflecting his importance to the team . Despite missing part of the promotion-winning campaign for recovery from injury, he contributed to Doncasters rise back to LeagueOne as champions of LeagueTwo in 202425.

Although Doncaster offered him a fresh contract, Olowu opted to move on, and Stockport County seized the opportunity. The defender is expected to bring experience, aerial ability (standing at 1.84m) and versatility to Stockports back line.
